Wednesday, Jun 3, 2009 Stimulus Special Confusion

Is the $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Stimulus Special at the 2009 WSOP a 3-day event or a 4-day event?

The $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Stimulus Special attracted the largest field ever - 6,012 entrants - in a live tournament outside the WSOP Main Event. This has caused some trouble for the WSOP organizers.

At the start of day 3 of the tournament, WSOP media director Nollan Dalla sent the following email:

"ATTENTION ALL MEDIA:

Due to the record size of the field (the largest in history for a non-Main Event), the final table of EVENT #4 is expected to begin late tonight and play through until a winner is determined.  This is expected to be late at night or perhaps tomorrow morning.

Please note there was some confusion about this tournament being a "four-day event."  The final table will start tonight (Tuesday).

WSOP MEDIA/PR TEAM"

Eight hours later the WSOP media staff sent another message:

"PLEASE NOTE:

Event #4 was originally scheduled to be a 3-day tournament. However, because of its record-breaking field (6,012), the final table will be played tomorrow at 2:00 PM."
