The fourth event of the 2009 World Poker Tour season sent players to the other side of the country, specifically to the Borgata hotel in Las Vegas.
This gave the east coasters a chance, and 516 of them turned out, creating a five million dollar prize pool which would award $1,424,500 to the winner.
WPT 2009 in Retrospect: The Borgata
Interestingly, while the previous tournament, the Legends of Poker, featured Internet sensation Amit Makhija, who finished second, Borgata's final table offered Makhija's roommate, another Internet star, Vivek Rajkumar. Joining Rajkumar at the final table were long time pro Dan Heimiller, multiple WSOP bracelet winner Mark Seif, Jason Strochak, Sang Kim and short stack Andrew Knee.
The Borgata: Sets and Suckouts
Knee was the first to be eliminated when he moved in with A4 and Jason Strochak woke up with pocket tens. However Strochak himself was crippled when he called Seif's all-in bet with pocket queens. Seif exposed pocket eights and was way behind, but when an eight hit on the flop, Strochak found himself a huge underdog and lost the hand.
Seif received some poker justice a while later when he moved in with pocket aces against Rajkumar's pocket tens. Turnabout was fair play when the flop brought a ten, and Rajkumar ended up doubling through Seif, ending up with a full house.
Seif was eliminated a bit later to exit in fifth place. Strochak, who had managed to climb back into contention after tangling with Seif, got back into trouble when he got it all in with the very patient Sang Kim. Strochak had pocket queens, but the conservative Kim naturally turned over pocket kings and won the pot. Rajkumar knocked Strochak out shortly thereafter.
Rajkumar King of the Borgata
After Rajkumar hit quads to take out Heimiller, the very patient Sang Kim ended up guaranteeing himself second place money.
This would be as far as he could go though, as Rajkumar entered heads up play with a massive chip lead, and polished Kim off when his AJ sucked out on Kim's AQ with a jack on the flop.
